The trade winds are blowing, the Caribbean sun is shining, and the dock in Antigua is buzzing with anticipation. Yacht Bluejay is about to take on the RORC 600, one of the most exhilarating offshore races in the world. With 600 miles of intense racing, weaving through 11 stunning Caribbean islands, it’s a true test of skill, endurance, and teamwork.
Crew, Charts, and Lots of Work – The Prep Days
The last few days have been a whirlwind. Our crew, some fresh faces, some seasoned hands, arrived in Antigua and quickly got to work. Introductions were made over deck beers and sea stories, but before long, the real focus kicked in: prepping Bluejay to race.

Down below, the nav team huddled over charts, planning routes, studying currents, and marking out strategic points for sail changes. Up on deck, sails were checked, lines run, and the final tweaks made to ensure we’re fast and race-ready.

Skipper Patrick Van Der Zeijden joined the official RORC skippers’ briefing, where the latest forecasts, safety updates, and race committee instructions were given. Conditions are shaping up to be classic Caribbean sailing: warm winds, rolling seas, and some tactical challenges between the islands.
Final Checks & A Last Night Ashore
Today was about the finishing touches. Double-checking safety gear, provisioning, crew rotations, and emergency drills. The crew also got in some final training: hoisting, trimming, reefing, and practicing those high-speed manoeuvres that will be key in the first few hours after the start gun.
As the sun set over English Harbour, we took a deep breath, knowing the next time we step ashore, we’ll have 600 miles of hard sailing behind us. But for tonight, a little downtime. Some good food, a few beers at the bar, and a moment to soak in the atmosphere of one of the most exciting race weeks in the world.

The Countdown is On
Tomorrow, it’s game time. The fleet will charge out of Antigua, sails full, adrenaline pumping, ready to battle it out on the water. It’s going to be a fast, furious, and unforgettable ride.
